It has been yet another busy – and exhausting – day in the immigration law world. A bit of good news and, as is the norm these days, plenty of bad. Let’s start with the good.
Today, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a lower court ruling preventing the Trump administration from ending the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program and requiring the Department of Homeland Security to continue to adjudicate renewal applications for existing DACA recipients. This decision only impacts DACA renewals.
This issue will likely only be settled by the Supreme Court. But how refreshing it would be if all our elected leaders would do the right thing by our Dreamers kids and pass legislation to protect them and their future in the only country they have ever called home. To us, this is actually the easiest of all decisions.
